Hi, I’m Juliet.
I’m a queer, mixed-race Latina therapist and writer.
My journey here has been a winding one. I dropped out of college after my freshman year and returned as an older student. I earned an MFA in Creative Writing, and embarked on a career as a writer and editor. And even though I now had more life experience and had chosen a career based on a better understanding of myself and my passions, something was still missing. And then I took an assignment to interview and write about someone else, and immediately recognized my calling. It was as loud as a thunderclap. I was being called to help others explore their own stories. So I returned to school and became a marriage and family therapist.
I now have over a dozen years treating trauma in individuals and families in Oakland, San Francisco, and Albuquerque, most of those years serving in non-profit agencies and community health organizations as a clinical supervisor, and later, a clinical director. During my years of practice, I have become certified in a number of trauma specializations, including Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) and Child Parent Psychotherapy (CPP).
My clinical work with the artistic and creative community has been endorsed by authors such as Cristina Garcia, and programs such as UNM’s MFA in Creative Writing program. My creative writing can be found in literary journals such as The Acentos Review and Erato Magazine. You can find my clinical input featured in Women’s Health Magazine, and online at the Bernalillo County Behavioral Health Summit’s panel on behavioral health and the workplace.
